Baby Announcements

Your baby announcement is the first of many milestone moments you will journey through during the next few months… and years with your baby! Make sure your baby announcement expresses your style and personality, like your hobbies and interests, sense of place (travel, home, city), fashion and brands, favorite teams, etc. Use these to create the perfect announcement:

  1. Choose a seasonal or holiday theme:
    • Announcing during a holiday season? Use words like “brewing” for a Halloween theme, “a gift is coming…” for Christmas, or include a message with “pop” for a New Year’s celebration.
    • The same theming words could be applied to seasons such as spring (“growing” and “springing into”) and Summer (“little sunshine” and “splashing into parenthood”). Don’t forget to match the visual to the cute theme as well!
  1. Take the classic and traditional route:
    • Share a photo of your ultrasound picture
    • Arrange baby clothes and booties next to a sign or calendar
    • Use a letterboard or write a sweet message about your family growing
  2. Traveling through motherhood (spread the travel bug):
    • Use a passport, suitcase/backpack, etc., to style a photo with an ultrasound photo
    • Post a photo from your latest trip (while you were secretly pregnant) with a hand on your belly: “New passport required in [year]” or “Adding a travel buddy in [year].”
    • Use a physical or digital map photo to show an “X marks the spot” with the month and year of your due date with the message, “Arriving as parents in [year].”
  3. Include your furry family members:
    • Dress up your pet with a sign that says, “My parents are getting me a human!”
    • Pose your pet with the ultrasound photo or baby shoes.
    • Place a sign next to your pet saying, “Promoted to Big Brother/Sister!”
  4. Have the older siblings announce:
Having your littles join in on the announcement can create a cute (and sometimes very funny) photo or post.
    • Big Brother/Sister Reveal: “Promoted to Big Brother/Sister!”
    • Place booties next to other kids’ shoes
    • Have siblings hold up your ultrasound photo
    • Take a photo of your family lineup with signs like *“Player 1,” “Player 2,” and “New Player Loading.”
  5. Create a laugh:
    • Take a picture of you eating a big meal or lots of dessert items with the caption: “Eating for two.”
    • Place an “Eviction Notice” sign on a crib or your older child’s bed with the date of the baby’s arrival.
    • Design a graphic or photo that says, “Baby loading… [Month] [Year].”
  6. Focus on an object:
    • Use a balloon, baby shoes/clothes, pumpkin, beach ball, suitcase/travel item, etc., to write on or attach a message to, such as “Here we grow again,” “Coming soon,” or “Travel will look different in [Year].”
    • Circle your due date on a calendar and add baby items like a pacifier or onesie.
    • Share a stack of parenting or baby books with a caption that says, “Studying for our new role: Mom and Dad!”
  7. Future Photo (planning for arrival announcement):
Design your pregnancy announcement photo to be interchangeable with one featuring your baby after they’re born! For example, you could hold a pumpkin in front of your belly now, and once the baby arrives, recreate the same pose while holding your newborn. This way, you’ll have an adorable side-by-side comparison to announce your little one’s arrival in just nine months!
  8. More than a photo:
    • Create a video reel of your journey, ending with the ultrasound photo or due date reveal.
    • Send family and friends scratch-off cards that reveal “We’re expecting!”
    • Place a phone to record your in-person or facetime announcement to family to capture their reaction and create a video montage.
    • Create a song playlist with lullabies, songs about babies, etc., and text out the link to family and friends with a message to “Listen up! We’ll need this playlist in a few months.”
    • Make t-shirts and deliver them to family and friends “graduated to [grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, etc.].
    • Send or post a puzzle that, when assembled, reveals the baby news
